Bulk Importing Trades into the Journal

The best way to start using StockTickr is to bulk import your trading history into the journal.

For Interactive Brokers Users

  • In your IB account, go to Reports, then Activity, then Third-Party Downloads.
  • You can choose from a variety of formats - choose the TradeLog format.
  • After clicking the Download button, select the entire report by going to Edit, Select All (or using the Ctrl-A shortcut key)
  • Copy the contents to the clipboard by going to Edit, Copy (or using Ctrl-C).
  • Create a new text file on your computer and paste the contents into the new file.
  • Go to the bulk import tool and choose your newly created file to import your trades.

For Infinity Futures Users

  • At the upper left of the Infinity AT quote window are two book icons, the one on the far left being an open book and the next one in being a closed book.
  • Clicking on the closed book icon opens a window called "Trades," which shows all completed trades.
  • In a bar at the upper part of the Trades window, starting in the middle and extending to the right are 5 icons.
  • The first icon is the "Show Filled Orders" setting.  Make sure that button is enabled.
  • The third one in from the left is an icon of a computer disk. Clicking on that opens a "Save As" dialog in Windows.
  • Choose a name for the file and save it to your computer and take note of where the file is saved.
  • Go to the bulk import tool, select the Infinity option and choose your newly created file to import your trades.

To Import Transact Futures Statements

  • Go to Transact Futures site and login.
  • Download any of your account statements (Daily or Monthly).
  • Save the PDF file to your computer and take note of where the file is saved.
  • Go to the bulk import tool, select the Transact Futures option and choose your newly created file to import your trades.

For Think or Swim Clients

  • From within thinkDesktop, click on the Monitor tab, then click Account Statement.
  • Click on the arrow next to Trade History.
  • Select "change dates viewed" button in upper right and select data range for the export.
  • Select button in far upper right corner to "Export or print this layout" as mouse-over says.
  • From the dropdown menu that appears, select "Export".
  • A dialog box appears to select the file type and location to save the file.
  • Choose "CSV (comma-separated values)" from the File Types dialog box.
  • Choose a name for the file or keep the default name.
  • Click Export button.
  • Go to the bulk import tool, select the ThinkorSwim option, and choose your newly created file to import your trades.

For TD AMERITRADE Clients (Transactions Less Than 60 Days)

  • Go to the bulk import tool and choose TD AMERITRADE from the File Format drop down list.
  • Fill in the Broker Username and Broker Password fields with your TD AMERITRADE username.
  • Choose a value for the Days to Retrieve field (up to 60)
  • Click Upload Now to import your trades into your StockTickr Journal.

For TD AMERITRADE Clients (Transactions Older Than 60 Days)

  • Log into your TD AMERITRADE account.
  • Go to Accounts, then History & Statements.
  • Choose a time period in the View date/range field and click View.
  • Using your mouse, select the contents of the Search results table.
  • Open notepad and paste the contents from your clipboard.
  • Save the file to your computer and take note of where the file is saved.
  • Go to the bulk import tool, select the TD AMERITRADE Historical option and choose your newly created file to import your trades.

For Sterling Trading Platform Users

  • From within the Sterling Trader Pro platform, go to the Trading Monitor window.
  • Select the executions tab.
  • Go to the Actions menu and choose Export, All...
  • Choose a name for the file and save it to your computer and take note of where the file is saved.
  • Go to the bulk import tool, select the Sterling Trading Platform option and choose your newly created file to import your trades.

For Ninjatrader Export

  • In Control Center go to Account Performance tab.
  • Generate a performance history for the relevant account, instruments and templates you desire.
  • When Ninjatrader has finished you will see some basic performance metrics in the Summary, switch to the Trades tab.
  • While in the Trades tab you should see a list of the trades you generated the report for.
  • Right click anywhere in the list of trades and select "Export to Excel.." this will open your MS Excel with a file showing exported trades.
  • Save the file in a folder, or locate the file (a file with a .csv extension) in the default folder NinjaTrader uses, typically C:\Users\Your_PC_Username\AppData\Local\Temp
  • Go to the bulk import tool, select Ninjatrader Export and choose your newly created csv file to import your trades.

ETrade Export Instructions

  • Log into your ETrade account and click on the Trading & Portfolios tab and then click on the Transaction History tab.
  • Click on Transactions and then select your account and click Search Transactions.
  • Select All Trades and then enter a date range and click Go.
  • Select the entire report by going to the Edit menu and then Select All to copy the contents of the report to the clipboard.
  • From your computer's start menu bring up notepad and paste the contents of the clipboard into notepad.
  • Save the file to your hard drive and remember where you saved it.
  • Go to the bulk import tool and choose your newly selected file to import your trades and select ETrade as the file type.

For Goldman Sachs REDI+ Users

  • Log into the Goldman Sachs 360 portal.
  • From the Online Reports menu choose Activity.
  • Be sure to add the Execution Time field to the report.
  • Select a date range and then click the Search button.
  • When your transactions are displayed, click on the Excel icon above the Search button.
  • Save the file to your hard drive and remember where you saved it.
  • Go to the bulk import tool and choose your newly selected file to import your trades and select REDI+ as the file type.

For Fidelity Clients

  • Log on to your Fidelity Investments account.
  • Click on Accounts & Trade and select Portfolio
  • From the Select Action drop down dialog box select History.
  • Select the appropriate Time Period and click the Display History button.
  • Make sure the Sort Order is by Date
  • Click on the download link on the top right of the page.
  • Save the document in CSV format locally to your computer, remembering the file name and location where you saved it.
  • Go to the bulk import tool and choose your newly selected file to import your trades.

For TradeStation Clients

Here's a video of the export process for TradeStation.

  • Open TradeManager Analysis window
  • Select date range
  • Generate report
  • In upper toolbar click on "export report" icon
  • Choose a file name to save the report as.
  • Bring up the file in Microsoft Excel.
  • Change to the Trades List worksheet.
  • Go to File, Save As and choose CSV file as the file format.
  • Choose a file name and save the file, remembering which folder you saved it in.
  • Go to the bulk import tool and choose your newly selected file to import your trades.

For Brokers that Clear Through Penson

  • Go to online.penson.com and log in, then go to Account Information, then Trade Activity.
  • In the From and To fields, put the date range for the trades you'd like to export, then click Go.
  • When the trade activity is returned, look on the blue bar that says "Trade Activity"
  • Click on the briefcase icon with the arrow through it (right to the left of the printer icon).
  • That will bring up the Export Data screen.
  • Export the data in a Delimited Text File format with comma delimited selected as the delimiter.
  • Download that file and go to the bulk import tool to import your trades.

For Schwab Accounts

  • On the Schwab web site, go to Accounts, then History.
  • Define the date range for the transactions you'd like to export.
  • Click Go to view the transactions.
  • In the top right corner, click the Export link.
  • Click OK when the disclaimer dialog box appears.
  • Save the file to your hard drive
  • Go to the Bulk Import page and select Schwab in the drop down list.
  • Browse to the file you just created.
  • Click Upload Now.

For MB Trading (Non-Forex)

  • In the Penson page that pops up, go to Account Information, then Trade Activity.
  • In the From and To fields, put the date range for the trades you'd like to export, then click Go.
  • When the trade activity is returned, look on the blue bar that says "Trade Activity"
  • Click on the briefcase icon with the arrow through it (right to the left of the printer icon).
  • That will bring up the Export Data screen.
  • Export the data in a Delimited Text File format with comma delimited selected as the delimiter.
  • Download that file and go to the bulk import tool to import your trades.

For MB Trading Forex Accounts

  • Log in to your MB Trading account.
  • Click on the My Forex Account link on the left hand side of the page.
  • Click Report then Trade Confirmation.
  • Enter a date range in the From and To fields (up to 90 days).
  • Click the Download button to download the transactions.
  • Go to the bulk import tool to import your trades using the file you downloaded and choose MB Trading Forex for the file format.

Create Your Own CSV File

If you already have your executions in a database of some kind, you can create a CSV file that can be imported.

Here are two sample files in the proper format:

When you bulk import, choose the StockTickr Format (Generic CSV) option for the file format.

For Terra Nova Clients

  • On the Terra Nova web site, log in and go to Client Services and then go to the Reports tab.
  • Select Download Data.
  • Choose a Start and End date for the download.
  • Select Comma Delimited File (CSV) - Standard option for the file format.
  • Click the Download button and save the file in on your computer in a place you'll remember.
  • Go to the bulk import tool to import your trades, choosing Terra Nova as the file format.

For Lightspeed Users

  • Log into your account on the Lightspeed website.
  • Click on the Trading tab then select Clearing then Trades.
  • Use the arrows to select the day for the trades you'd like to export.
  • Click on the View All link on the right side of the page.
  • Select the entire trade table and copy the data to your computer's clipboard.
  • Create a new text file on your computer and paste the contents into the new file.
  • Go to the bulk import tool and choose your newly created file to import your trades.

For StreetSmart Pro Users

Note: StreetSmart Pro users can use this method to import trades from the most recent trading day only. To import more of your trading history, follow the instructions for Schwab Accounts below.

  • From within StreetSmart Pro, go to the Account Detail window.
  • Select the Order Status tab.
  • From the File menu inside the Account Detail window, select Export. This will create a file with your execution data in it.
  • Choose a file name and location that you'll remember and click Save.
  • Go to the bulk import tool, select StreetSmart Pro, and choose your newly selected file to import your trades.
